Jewelry Making / Beading Station DIY

Materials Needed

1 Piece of foamboard

1 square of felt

Stick pins

Glue

Wire dish rack from dollar tree

Small storage boxes dollar tree

Materials for decorating ( I used washi tape and ribbon from dollar tree)

Cut foam board into the following pieces

     12 X 11  inches

 12 X ½ inches  (2 of these)

 12.5 X 3 inches  (2 of these) Sides

12 X 3 inches  (2 of these) Top & Bottom

Glue the square of felt onto the bottom portion of the 12 X 11 piece of foamboard

Use the 12 X ½  inch piece of foamboard as a guide with the 12 X 3  pieces of foamboard, to place top and bottom sides of the station.

Use stick pins to attach the two pieces of foamboard together.

Once in place separate enough to add glue  and then seal back in place.

To attach the sides  run glue along all the edges then place the 12.5 X 3 pieces of foamboard aligning them so that they are even  with the top and bottom pieces already in place.

There will be some over hang on one end so that you get a good fit 

once  everything is in place trim this off. 

Place the  12 X ½ inch piece at the top edge of the felt glue in place and add stick pins in sides and along top to secure into place. These will stick out of the bottom . You will use wire cutters to snip them off when finished.

Use the other 12 X ½ piece to cut into 2 inch sections to make the dividers. Glue in place and again use stick pins to secure in place on the sides 

Underneath run glue along all the edges to reinforce and seal any cracks

You can also do this in the small sections on the front .

Decorate to your preference I used what I had  Washi tape and ribbon.

Since washi tape likes to lift up I glued it down to the top edges to give it a nice finished look.

 

For the sides I pinned the ribbon into place  at each of the corners and glued them down into place as I went around. Using clamps to hold as it dried. Let dry over night.

I picked up this wire dish rack from the dollar tree as well as these 5 small plastic containers.

Place rack on its side great way to have your tools handy and use containers for 

the projects your working on or to store your favorite beads or findings.

Put it all together and your done and it wouldn’t be complete without my magnifying light.

Skull Dice Tower

 I found this supportless skull design dice tower on thingyverse today so will be playing with my 3d printer to see how it works for me. Sometimes it prints perfect other times a big mess so hoping for the best. This skull can have a spider on top  or just plain going without the spider. Very nervous  I have never printed anything out this big before said it will take 2 days and 12 hours to complete. Fingers crossed will let ya know how it printed out.😜

Today I will also be painting some rat miniatures  that I printed out earlier links below

These printed out quickly and perfecty. I also added some of the zombie rats I cut off of the other prints so they would not all look the same.

These also printed out nicely  had a few mistakes printing but  just adjusted them to look good by cutting off some of the rats so they could be placed differently. This worked out great in the end as now they all looked different from each other.

Fall is in the air earrings

 

Last night while watching TV I realized  that I had some seed beads in the fall is in the air color palette so I started playing around and came up with this cute fall inspired earrings.

They are very light weight and dangly.

 Very easy to create I just ladder stiched 

Row 1 10 sets of 3 seed beads ( Orange   Brown.  Orange ) 

Row 2  9 sets of 2 seed beads ( Brown )

Row 3   8 sets of 2 seed beads ( Orange )

          Row 4  7 sets of 3 seed beads ( Brown )

          Row 5   6 sets of 3 seed beads ( Orange)

          Row 6  4 sets of 2 seed beads ( Brown )

           Row 7   3 sets of 3 seed beads ( Orange )

Then created a loop on top with 11  alternating seed beads and ran the thread all th way back down to the first row. to make the loops. 

When creating the loops start on the two outside section of beads and work your way in.

These amounts can very depending on the sizes of your beads once you make your first loop make adjustments as needed so the loops lay nicely.

1st loop has 30 seed beads  ( Orange )

2nd loop has 25 seed beads ( Brown )

3rd loop has 16 seed beads ( Orange )

4th loop has 8 seed beads ( Brown )

Color palette’s explained

As crafters/artists and makers we know just how important colors are. Colors can make or break your projects. When a color palette is done well in a project it will direct the viewer’s eye. When a color palette is not done well the viewer can be unfocused and straight up confused by what they are looking at.

When creating color palettes for your projects there are a lot of things to think about.

 *If you are making a project for a gift such as jewelry or accessories, you will want to consider who will be wearing it so it will compliment colors they like to wear.

 * If you make items for a gift such as home décor or something that will be displayed take into consider the colors in the person’s home.

* Does the recipient of the project have a favorite color?

*Is the project for a special holiday or occasion such as a party or wedding which may already have a color palette.

*What are the current color trends? This will be important if you are planning to sell your items. When reaching out to a bigger audience the trending colors will draw their attention quicker as it will be what the consumer is used to seeing at the moment.

Colors also carry different emotional symbolism.

·         Red —passion, or energy.

·         Orange — joy and enthusiasm

·         Yellow — happiness and intellect

·         Green — growth or ambition, green

·         Blue — tranquility and confidence

·         Purple — luxury or creativity

·         Black — power and mystery

·         White — safety and innocence

Types of color schemes

Monochromatic color scheme is when a single color with varying shades and tints on the color wheel are used to produce a consistent look and feel. Although this scheme lacks color contrast, it will often ends up looking very clean and polished.

Analogous color schemes are formed by pairing one main color with the two colors directly next to it on the color wheel.  Analogous structures do not create themes with high contrasting colors, so they're typically used to create a softer, less contrasting design an can be very harmonious and relaxing.

Complementary color scheme is the use of two colors directly across from each other on the color wheel and relevant tints of those colors. The complementary color scheme provides the greatest amount of color contrast. This color scheme can be vibrant with high contrast if colors are used in the same saturation.

Split complementary scheme includes one dominant color and the two colors directly adjacent to the dominant color's complement. This creates a more nuanced color palette than a complementary color scheme while still retaining the benefits of contrasting colors.

 

Triad color schemes offer high contrasting color schemes while retaining the same tone. Triadic color schemes are created by choosing three colors that are equally placed in lines around the color wheel.

The Tetradic color scheme uses four colors equidistant from each other on the color wheel to create a square or diamond shape. But this can produce a full rich color scheme.

Now that you have your color palette how do you use it?

 

60-30-10 RULE

This rule allows you to put a balanced color scheme together more easily.

 

60 represents 60% and is the primary colors you will be using.

 

30 represents 30% and is the secondary colors you will be using.

 

10 represents 10% and is the accent colors you will be using..

 

While these aren’t hard-and-fast numbers, they help give a sense of proportion and balance to your projects

Mix of things created in July

 

July is the first time in months that I have just been able to kick back and chill as I make things

More were made but my daughters claimed their favorites before I got to get photos of them
